National Volunteer week: 8-10 May

As part of National Volunteer week, International Student Services, in collaboration with CareerReady and Careers and Employability (Employer Engagement), held a number of activities, aimed at promoting and providing opportunities for both domestic and international students to seek and secure a valuable volunteer opportunity, as an adjunct to their university-based learning, contributing to their future readiness, and employability.

‘So you want to Volunteer?’, a workshop and facilitated panel discussion was held on Wednesday 10 May, where around 50 students heard perspectives from a panel of community volunteer organisations; Centre for Multicultural Youth, and Ardoch Youth Foundation and international student and volunteer, Ilyas Hussain, about volunteer recruitment, the benefits and outcomes of volunteering, for both volunteers, organisations, and the community.

This was followed by a great and inspirational day at the Volunteer Expo held on Thursday 11 May, attended by around 14 wonderful community organisations who came to showcase their services, engage with students, and to encourage them to step into volunteering.

A marvellous team of our International Student Hosts assisted with the Expo, and provided enthusiasm, fun and a fine example of volunteerism in action!
