“Away from home make me realise more how much I love my country”

The Conversation Club is back for semester two this year!

The first event on 4 September was a tremendous success with our international students sharing their amazing cultures, languages, festivals in a relaxing environment.

Three La Trobe international students, Andrea Renata Martinez Ortiz (Mexico), Marie Maeva Davasagaen (Mauritius) and Jose Jairo Villarreal Diaz (Colombia), designed very engaging presentations covering but not limited to the local festivals, authentic food, local slangs, and cultures from their own country. Andrea quoted “I can spend 3 days talking about Mexico as it’s such an amazing country! Away from home make me realise more how much I love my country”. Our participants asked a lot of questions on when is the best time to travel to Mauritius after Marie shared the pictures of those breathtaking sandy beaches. Jose shared a lot of misconceptions which are very common such as they speak Spanish not Colombian in Colombia.
