La Trobe shines in International Student Barometer

Every year La Trobe University participates in the International Student Barometer (ISB), an important global benchmarking tool that assists us to tailor services and support for our international student cohort. More than 1400 universities and colleges in 28 countries have adopted the ISB, collecting and comparing feedback from over 2 million students to date. La Trobe has been participating in the ISB survey since 2008. The ISB is conducted by i-graduate on behalf of the universities.

In 2017 more than 145,354 international students from 185 universities worldwide participated in the survey. In Australia, 16 universities (including 4 IRU), and more than 25,000 international students took part. We were delighted that La Trobe had our highest participation of international student respondents across 7 campuses with 1,636 students or 27% of onshore La Trobe international students taking part.

The survey covers currently enrolled international students on campus from all levels and years, from first year undergraduates to final year PhD students. Overall we were pleased with La Trobe’s results and as always take note of areas for improvement.

The summary information has been uploaded to the ISB page of the internet.

We take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who participated in the survey as your feedback helps us to improve and do better. You may recall we also ran a competition and we were delighted to give an i-pad and a cash prize to 2 lucky students.  Tejas in Bendigo was one lucky winner.

In 2018 we expect to see much more detailed data as the survey extends to domestic and international students in alternate years.
