Act of Translation: The Documentary – 17th March

We would like you to join us for the launch of Act of Translation: The Documentary on Saturday 17 March 2018, 1pm at the Immigration Museum; then join us for the annual Lord Mayor’s Student Welcome event that follows right after.

Over 18 weeks last year, students from Brazil, China, Colombia, Iraq, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Australia gathered every Wednesday for theatre workshops to help them discover a new voice in Melbourne. These workshops culminated in four incredible booked out performances of She’ll Be Right which moved audiences and changed perspectives on who international students in Melbourne really are.

But what about the students’ lives behind the performances? And how did the theatre process really work?

This is your chance to find out.

The Act of Translation program was shadowed by documentary film-maker Irene Metter, who has woven together an enlightening and moving film about both theatre and what goes on behind the scenes in the lives of international students in Melbourne.

12.30pm: Doors open
1.00pm: Screening
1.30pm: Q and A with filmmaker Irene Metter, artistic director Catherine Simmonds, and members of the Act of Translation cast.
