Become an eFriend and help new international students

La Trobe International Student Services is looking for current students who are willing to help new students with their preparations and settling into university life.

An e-friend is an experienced La Trobe University student who volunteers time to answer queries about living in Australia and studying at La Trobe University through Facebook or Weibo. In return, you will receive a reference letter and a certificate for your contribution, and gain experience in professional training and leadership development. Your volunteering will also be recognised on your academic transcript if you complete the required modules and volunteering activities through the Emerging Leaders Program.

To become an eFriend, you need to:

  • Attend a training session in January 2020 at Melbourne Campus or online training if you are from the regional campuses.
  • Spend at least three hours each week answering students’ questions from your computer, mobile or tablet via Facebook or Weibo between 20 January and 27 March 2020.

To join the e-friend program, register for the Emerging Leaders Program on LMS and select Mentor option 2 – La Trobe eFriends on LMS. Application closes on the 22 November 2019. Successful applicant will be invited to the Training session. For more information, contact Helen Zhang by email to h.zhang@latrobe.edu.au.
