Keith Haring| Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines – A Virtual Tour of the National Gallery, Victoria (NGV)

The NGV launched their virtual tour of the Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines exhibition on Saturday 4 April.

Since 2013, La Trobe’s partnership with the NGV has brought inspirational exhibitions to the community each Summer. As the Gallery’s Learning Partner, we are glad to (virtually) share the NGV’s world-first exhibition of Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines.

In the NGV’s most recent exhibition, we see the artists’ dedication to making powerful works that address the many social and political issues of their time.

The exhibition brings together the works of two of the most significant and influential artist (Keith Haring & Jean-Michel Basquiat) of the late twentieth century. It features over 200 pieces of their work.

According to Haring, Basquiat ‘wielded his brush as a weapon’, using it to create works about his experiences as a man of Puerto-Rican and Haitian descent in a primarily white art world.

Haring was a dedicated social activist and openly-gay man, who used art to connect with a broader public beyond the museum walls, about subjects spanning from the HIV/AIDS pandemic to the threat of nuclear proliferation.

This exhibition, together with the audio guide recording, can now be experienced at home through our new virtual tour.
